Default India ID?

Question about this item.

http://www.georgestamps.org/images/gp_india_52.jpg

The basic stamp is India Scott # 52, the 5r of 1895. But the
overprint confuses me. Some Indian official stamps bear a "Service"
overprint, and some bear a "Postage Service" overprint. I cannot
locate one that has this "Postal Service" overprint.

Any Ideas??

TIA,

George

George,

Victorian and Edwardian stamps overprinted "Postal Service" were customs fee
due stamps, not postage stamps.

Best regards

Ton

Ton,

Thank you for the information. I found the note in the Scott Catalog
that notes that this overprint was a customs fee indicator.

Thank you!

George
