Anywhere other than emailing UACC to look up UACC numbers?

A girl emailed me about a dealer called Robert Moss who has this
number: UACC# L 136R5

She claims to have talked to someone from UACC and said they couldn't
tell unless he registered. ?????? That is the registration number
isn't it? I am confused.

Can anyone help? Also has anyone heard of this guy? She didn't send
me and ID or a scan so I couldn't help....

Thanks

I went to the Regisered Dealers page of http://www.uacc.org and
didn't find that number listed.

I looked up both the number and the name, and it didn't show up.

That's just a membership number. In other words, he may be a UACC member but
he's definitely not a Registered Dealer.

Ok; so really that's not as trustworthy then? I mean do they police
people who are not registered dealers but are members that are
dealing?

No, the girl emailing told me last night she was enquiring about
something she bought in the past. She said it was 2 years old. I
suggested she ask more questions and check it out before she buys next
time. It's harder to help AFTER!

Depends what you mean by police, they will work as an arbitrator when a
dispute arises with a member IF (and this is a big if) you are also a
member. If you're not there isn't much they can do except that even
nonmembers can file a complaint against a member to be investigated by the
UACC Board of Ethics. Realisticly though their ability to do anything
beyond expell someone (worst case scenerio for member) from the UACC is
limited.

This is all outlined in the FAQs and Code of Ethics at their site
www.uacc.org

Hope this helps.

Best,
Bill

PS I was a UACC member, liked it, but let it lapse when I became a mostly
inactive collector.

Bill is correct... if you have an issue with a UACC member, the UACC will
only intercede if YOU are a member as well. However, that is also the case
if you have a problem with a UACC Registered Dealer. The difference is that
the UACC monitors the sales of RD's, and complaints, even by non-members,
can be a proverbial strike against the dealer.

As you probably know, Registered Dealers also go through a three year
process and create a certain level of accountability for themselves. This
doesn't mean that they don't make mistakes, but they are expected to rectify
it when they do. Of course, there are always bad apples in every group.

according to reports...UACC does not police their own people (the uacc
registered dealers) but if there are complaints, they will pull
membership. but if there are no complaints, they can sell fake stuff.
but as long as if you (the registered dealer) offer a money back
guarantee with your items against them being bad, and you uphold all
money back guarantees, you are virtually guaranteed membership as long
as you keep paying dues...
the three year waiting period is a joke. if you have a decent enough
reputation, you don't even have to wait the 3 years...

Mike,

"According to reports"? Have you ever wondered why they're called "rumors"?
You constantly bash people for supposedly not knowing what they're talking
about, yet that's exactly what you're doing here.
