NGC Appearance Review?
Does anyone have any experience with submitting to NGC's Appearance
Review (i.e. evaluated for downgrade)? I've heard NGC is one of the better TPG's to honor their guarantee. Good experience? Did they exchange or refund? How is FMV determined? I've searched the NGC forum but didn't find much,,, thanks. -- Ron K |

If you tried to cross over to another grading company, and it didn't work, you're probably not going to get the downgrade or the benefits of such ... Mike |

I've told this story a few times here. Several years ago I won an eBay auction for an NGC-65 1922-D Peace dollar on eBay conducted by a former RCC poster. After receiving the coin I took a very close look at it and compared it to the several NGC-64 Peace dollars I had. While the coin didn't have any significant contact marks it did have quite a few very fine and tiny scratch-like marks on the obverse. The marks were random and definitely not from cleaning....more likely contact marks. I decided the coin was definitely not a 65 and wrote the seller telling him I was reluctantly returning the coin. When he got it back he wrote and told me he agreed and would be sending it to NGC for evaluation. Several months later, during an unrelated e-mail exchange, he told me NGC also agreed. He said they downgraded it to 64 and sent him a check for the difference. He couldn't remember how much they sent him, but there was about a $275 difference between a 64 and a 65 on the PCGS price guide at the time. |

Coin must be intact in its holder. Also, choose a grading tier according to coin value and desired turnaround. Or a Appearance Review/Downgrade A service for review of an NGC coin you believe is over-graded or unattractively toned in a way that makes it unmarketable. http://www.ngccoin.com/services/services.asp JAM |

How can that be? Surely, you just said that to confuse us! 8) James |
