PNCs by
Grandpa
Are PNC strips (hope I got the right term here) typically kept in strips
of 3 or 5? The middle stamp is the one with the number, right? Since I
just snagged a couple strips at the Philatelic Center yesterday I might
as well do it right from the get-go.
Thanx...

Pontius Pilate on Stamps? by
Mette
A collector friend in Germany has sent me a very
extraordinary Christmas present: a book about
Pontius Pilate, of whom the legend persistently says
that he was born in the small Franconian town Forchheim,
in the proximity of Nuremberg in Germany.
The historical role of Pilate is well known. One...

R.I.P. Mail trains by
Alan
R.I.P. Mail trains
MAIL TRAINS have reached the end of the line. No more the night mail,
crossing the border, bringing no cheque nor postal order.
After more than 160 years of service, the Travelling Post Office - where
post is sorted en route on special train services - has finally gone to
the...

Next question by
malcolm hirst
Ladies and Gentlemen
This is one for our Aussie colleagues.
I have a 1966 4c orange ( very common ) QE2 definitive off paper which
shows part of a CDS which appears to read "Ship Mail". Is this a
"paquebot" type stamp(forlorn hope) or an indication that the package
is intended to be sent...

Was: Saar query by
Rodney
My apologies to the author of the postcard.
I referred to him as being perhaps illiterate, referring to his spelling of
"Buenos Ayres".
On browsing an old 1930 Stamp Album today, I noticed that it is, indeed
how it was once spelled, well, in this part of the world.

Advice Needed on Dispersal of Old Stamp Collection by
Barry Kramer
Hello,
My mother just handed me an old stamp collection that was my fathers. My
parents went through a messy divorce in 1964. My father took off and left
behind some musical instruments, some tools and a stamp collection. Mom was
after him for many years for non-payment of child support and...

What and How Much Is a Dollar by
Victor Manta
The Article I, Section 9, Clause 1 of the US Constitution says that it is a
coin containing 371.25 grains of fine silver.
Because the Constitutution never has been amended on this since 1788, this
meaning is apparently legally valid.
By using this definition you can compute how many grains of...

1921 Estonian stamp offer by
Bjorn Bakken
I am currently researching the background for the mass production of
forgeries of cheap Estonian stamps in the 1920's and -30's. One of the
major reasons was the interest from European and US dealers to buy cheap
stamps to sell to collectors. When the postal authorities were unable to
satisfy the...

Cinderella question - British Isles (?) by

I found this strip of four stamp-like objects :-) in a bag of
kiloware containing chiefly Irish and UK stamps from the 1970s
and 1980s:

I suppose that this is from the British Isles, too, but what
is it? What were these stamps meant for? There is a...

YAR Question - censored cover by
B Stannard
Could someone who reads Arabic please check out
the cover at:
http://www.ohmygosh.on.ca/stamps/yemen/yemcens.htm
It has what I believe is a crude YAR censor tape.
As far as I can see top line of the tape reads
"YEMEN ARAB REPUBLIC" in Arabic
Could anyone here translate the bottom line please?
