If you have a spreadsheet program you can use that (and OpenOffice is
free). Many of us are happy creating the columns we want in a
spreadsheet and typing the data in. I looked at a few programs, but
none offered me any significant benefit over a spreadsheet. (It helps
if you are familiar with the program and can create any reports you want.)

You could do worse that take a look at a product called Village Coin from
www.datavillage.com. They're a Canadian company.

I'm actually a banknote collector myself and I've been using one of their
products called Datatracker for Currency for the past year.

Their Village Coin database software looks very similar from the screen shots
and I would image that much of the application shares the same framework as the
one for banknotes.

The great thing about these products is the flexibility they give you to rename
and tailor data fields to suit particular aspects of your collecting interests.
Most database software for collectors only allow you to tailor a few fields
but the Data Village stuff gives you virtually 100% control. You should be
able to download a demo version then download and buy on-line the full
application if you're interested.

Oh and its reasonably priced as well.

When you come back, read the entire thread. Also, use the ADVANCED
SEARCH to look up other threads about Software (Programs, etc.)

There are about a dozen products on the market. The right one for you
depends on your needs.
