$50 note received in change
HI Guys, I wonder if you can please help me. My sister received a $50
note in change today and realized it looked a little unusual once she got to her car. It is a 1934 D $50 FRN in at least very good condition, crisp with crease down the center. I looked and was unable to find a value for this note. Could someone please tell me an approximate value of this piece of currency? I'm assuming it's worth more than $50. I've noticed that I'm finding more silver in my change lately, and I'm curious as to whether people are spending coins and bills that were once parts of collections due to the economy? Thank you in advance. Mike in PA |

Thank you in advance. Mike in PA I throw my trime's worth in on this one. Chances are your sister's $50 is worth $50, maybe a little more if it's in decent condition. A currency collector may offer a few bucks over face for it, but you're not going to the Bahama's on it. Silver in change could be any number of reasons. Busted collections from people who are in need of cash is one option. Another that most non-collectors don't think about is stolen collections that the thieves are afraid will get them caught if they try to fence them, so they spend them at face. Obviously, the older the coin, the more likely it will be spotted, suspiciously. Jerry |
