Default 1866 shield nickle

Now why would anyone bid on this without seeing the correct picture?

The more important question is why would the seller not correct the auction
in some way. I would assume the seller was never informed of the
contradiction in his auction and never visits the actual auction pages after
listing.

I have run across auctions before when the item did not match the image and
have emailed the seller for clarification. In every instance (only a few,
though), the title was correct and the image was not. In every instance
that I was involved with, the seller never made a correction. A few times,
I got a good deal.

About the one bidder, I can only assume the bidder contacted the seller for
clarification or bid without emailing, on the gamble that an EF 1866 shield
nickel would be correct and that other bidders would be too confused to
compete for the item.

Of those two possibilities, I am going to assume the bidder took a gamble on
what he would get and did not email the seller, since the auction ended
without any corrections. Bill
