Canada fancy cancel
Mette wrote:
:-))) I also saw a Canadian (fancy?) cancel somewhere saying 0H0 H0H :-) Best regards Mette ================================================== ======================= Mette: The canadian postal code mentioned in your slogan cancel is, in fact, "H0H 0H0". [ie HO HO HO] It is a REAL postal code. It is a special canadian postal code used by children, of all ages, to write to Santa Claus during the holiday season. Over 1 million letters are received there each year and EACH ONE with a return address (Canada or other countries) receives a reply. In 20 years, over 11 million replies have been sent. Has anybody a scan of this slogan cancel? When I asked Canada Post about cancels with this postcode, they told me that there weren't any, but that the postcode was merely used to direct the letters to "Santa". Jan-Martin |

Jan-Martin ================================================== ============== Hello Jan-Martin: I have just posted a scan of one such cancel at: http://cjoint.com/data/cipa4Inhzj.htm What Canada Post says is true. The H0H0H0 post code is advertised to children, nationally via slogan cancels in different Canadian cities. (see my example, from Vancouver BC) However, the RETURN mail from Santa only has his post code in the RETURN address. I'm not sure if Santa has a postal frank or not. I'm pretty sure that he does not use stamps on his mail. (it would take a long time to lick 1 million stamps. 38*( ) I shall have to write him this year and see which cancel is used, Blair (TC) |

Just be careful,
It depends where Santa is having his Cake and milk. The year before last, my son wrote to Mr. Claus at Mette's suggested address in Europe, and Santa replied from Canberra Australia. | However, the RETURN mail from Santa only has his post code | in the RETURN address. Here is an image of a cover received from him in 1992, duly franked with a Greenlandic stamp of the time. http://shoebox.heindorffhus.dk/shoeb...aCover1992.jpg The cover contained a nice letter and a small mobile of the same design as the stylized Santa shown on the cover :-) I shall have to write him this year and see which cancel is used, Better do so, and we can compare cancels ;-) Regards Mette |

Ooopsies, Beg forgiveness!
It was posted from The North Pole (nudge, nudge, wink, wink,) http://cjoint.com/data/cjfYLiZOiP.htm The letter to my son was barcoded, hence my assumption it had come from Canberra.
