Default economy mail from overseas

I won a reference book from a French seller on eBay and I paid $13 for
shipping.
I was emailed when the item was sent and told that it would arrive in 7-10
days.

I gave up on ever getting that item a LONG time ago but believed the seller
really did send it so I left no feedback
good or bad. That depresses me as near $40 purchases are not something I
can easily lose and feel good about
or forget.

Well it arrived today!!! 47 days after it was shipped!!!
I feel like celebrating. :-)

Beats my record. 33 days is the longest I've had from overseas.

Books are usually the slowest, and it took about that long for me to
get a book from the USA sent in a bulk mail bag at book rate to
Zurich.

I just received two coins in the mail here in Switzerland today. One
was sent on May 8 priority mail from Belgium, and the other from the
USA on May 16 by Global Priority Mail.

Go figure...

Hello Dale
I have a friend in France that I trade coins with
Last lot of coins were held in customs for 14 days so they say,
it took 3 weeks for the package to arrive
Maybe your parcel was also held in customs.
Best regards
Andrew

I ordered some coins from Switzerland on ebay and it took about a week
to get them.
On the other hand, a few years ago I ordered a CD Rom from Dubai and
it took 4 months to arrive.
International mail is very unpredictable.

Once it took a first class package almost that long to make its way from
Texas to Virginia. I had ordered some Washington quarters from a guy in
Texas. And then got busy and forgot about it. About a month later, I
remembered that I hadn't received the quarters yet and was about to write
the guy a letter when the package showed up in my mailbox. It had been
postmarked about 2 days after I sent the order with a check. So the guy had
actually sent me the quarters without waiting for the check to clear (I had
ordered from him before). But it did take a month or so for the package to
reach me. And it had been sent first class.

I once shipped a package from the USA to Australia. It was a freebie
I was sending to an acquaintance and figured since there was no rush
I'd save a few bucks. I forget what it was called, but the postal
clerk told me the package would never leave the surface (truck, train,
ship) and would take UP TO 4 weeks for delivery.

The package wasn't delivered for two months! The recipient and I had
long since decided the package had been lost and I had sent a
replacement ... before the original arrived.

I have to think it was forgotten on a shelf somewhere in the world for
at least a 4 or 5 weeks.

airmail can take anywhere between 3 -22 days (usually just 4 from UK)

surface mail can take between 6 - 12 weeks (usually just 6 from UK)

Just before Christmas one year, I sent a car payment by mail. US address to
US address.
After Christmas the finance people called and said where is my money and
they were not nice about it either.
I told them to wait a little as I sent it a couple weeks ago. They of
course didn't believe me
and were quite rude. Rude enough that I got mad. They said I needed to
stop payment on the check and send another.
I said no that would cost me $25 to stop the check. I no longer do business
with that bank btw.

They said they would file a bad credit report, and I said do your damnedest.
Anyway it rolled around and I made the next payment.
They got it three days after I sent it. I noticed at the end of that month
that the first check cleared after the second cleared.
They never apologized for their rudeness and never acknowledged that it
wasn't all my fault.
I am not a violent person but if that person would have been in front of me
and talked like that to me in person
there would have been a serious altercation :-)

I see that rudeness occasionally on Usenet, bet they wouldn't do it in
person, not for long anyway ;-)

I am familiar with trading overseas and if he had said he sent it ground or
economy I wouldn't have gotten worried until after 8 weeks.
We talked about that before I bid and he said it was the 7-10 day mail
service. It didn't really matter to me, I was in no hurry
but when it didn't show up weeks after the promised delivery date, I began
to worry and eventually gave up.
We talked several times and he was surprised I hadn't already gotten it and
he filed a complaint with the post after 30 days.

The postage on the package is 8.48 euros and I paid $13 US. That is close
enough because the container cost too.
It is clearly marked economy.

Alls well that ends well and I left positive feedback.
