Default eBay Bull S---

As a LONG time buyer/seller (over 8 years now, I believe..) on eBay,
I make the following observations. First, I have noticed that a couple
previous "good guy" sellers, who used to describe their notes
properly, grade them "kinda" correctly, etc. are now calling EVERY
Damned thing they post "RARE" or more... I can only assume this is
done in desperation, as they are not selling much, and want to attract
attention to their garbage. This is WRONG... Its actually FRAUD, when
they KNOW Better.. There is one person from Virginia who has called
EVERYTHING he has EVER listed as RARE. I dont give a damn if its the
most common note available, he lists it as RARE... Again, this is
WRONG... He (This particular seller) KNOWS BETTER.

Secondly, many NEW sellers appear, and almost everthing they list is
also RARE or VERY RARE... I have asked a couple of them why/how they
came by that RARE word to describe their common notes. I get the
usual answers... "Well, the note might be common down South, but up
here in Wisconsin, its RARE" ... Or " I did not see many on eBay, so
IT MUST BE RARE"... Or, the old "The person I am selling it for (or
the person who sold it to me) SAID ITS RARE.. We all know that is
TOTAL BULL****. They are Damned Liars and Thieves to use this kind of
practice.

Why do I say this? Well, a couple reasons.... First, Almost all CSA
and Obsolete notes can be found in references which, even though the
given prices might not be correct, some semblence of rarity can be
established. Secondly, I have been selling CSA and Obsoletes over 26
years now, I KNOW WHICH NOTES ARE RARE and Which are NOT.

Finally, if ANY of you lying *******s to whom I refer are reading
this, I hope you burn in Hell for your thieving/deceiving/misleading
descriptions of your damed overgraded, common banknotes. Screw You. If
eBay gave a damn, they would not allow this garbage (And the hundreds
of fakes/replicas, which is another item of discussion altogether..)
to be misdescribed as it is.

epay doesn't give a flying fig about people. I'd LMAO if they got shut down
by the SEC or Secret Service. I'd LMAO if they got shut down by any means.

Gene, I hope your outrage was not aimed
at me over the Missouri claims certificate.

"rare" was used on the display card with
the certificate and I was not sure if I should just cover that up or
not. The
certificate is certainly not really rare of
course but not extremely common either.

In retrospect I probably should have just
covered that up or cut it out of the display
card.

John... No, I was not.. Mostly the "Tappahanock" TURD with his
garbage notes, all of which are "RARE". (I am sure you have seen his
junk notes...) Additionally, one Other guy from Virginia, (sells all
kind of stuff..) who I used to think was/is a honest seller has gone
the same way.. ****es me off to no end... G

What I find interesting is when people say they don't know anything
about
what they are selling yet they still use the term "rare". If they
don't know
anything about what they are selling how can they claim to know it is
rare? Usually they have a story about getting the notes from old
Uncle Joe's
estate or some such thing.

i agree with the "rare" issue , i have only been collecting notes for a few
years, i dont think i have anything rare...i do have a few notes that i have
only seen listed once or twice, but the sellers never listed them as
rare......if a seller list's a lot of things as rare it can be very
misleading and point newbie collectors in the wrong direction........i think
it is a more common thing now in the note/coin collecting ebay seller
circle....push as many things as you can, way to far above the actual
value.....

What annoys me even more is selling VERY common obsolete notes for big bucks
just because some company put it in plastic as CU sixty-something. Using the
coin-related notion that condition is everything does not hold for common
obsolete notes.

I figured a couple of years ago with currency prices rising that this
slabbing
thing was going to make its way to the paper money field.

It was impossible for them to resist and the dealers who once took a
stand
against slabbing (PCDA) have abandoned their principles in a chase to
wring more money out of collectors.

Your comments can also be applied to several sellers of Scottish notes,
and probably every other country.

It is now a huge gamble to buy a "high grade" note off ebay as it's safe
to assume that the majority are no such thing.

The worrying thing is that the serial sellers of overgraded notes usually
have perfect feedback, sometimes in the many hundreds. Billy

Did anyone see the eBay 'expose' show on the weekend? I caught part of
it before going out for the afternoon. It was made like an investigative
news story and interviewed most of the key players. There was less hype
than I expected and a lot of apologizing from their top customer service
person.

From what I saw it seemed that there are a small number of power sellers
making a fair amount of moola but the number of frauds, problems, and
perceived lack of customer service are driving eBayers away in droves.
Some are moving to Yahoo type auctions where the auctioneer is providing
some assurances to no longer using web auctions.

Of course they would show the most extreme examples of fraud and theft
but one private investigator went through the site offering tips and
hints on what to look for in a scam. Very educational. Overall the
greatest concerns were the recent price increase that squeezed some
small-time traders out of the loop and the fact that eBay Customer
Service is generally perceived as robotic, Draconian and moving at a
glacial pace -- especially when compared to how quickly items can be
listed and fraud perpetrated. By the time eBay takes action the damage
is often done.

Like with all good ideas, the bad apples may soon be the catalysts in a
significant change to the "free wheeling" online auction services. There
were hints ... but nothing concrete.

Anyone see the full program?

FWIW.

- Sheldon
