1955 S Wheat Penny Error
Can anyone tell me anything about a 1955 S Wheat Penny that has the second
"5" with a line through it? It makes the bottom of the five look almost like slash instead of curved. http://home.earthlink.net/~shainoc/ The picture is kinda fuzzy, but you can just make out what I'm talking about. Thanks |

Can't see a thing in the pic, sorry. But, look he http://coppercoins.com/diesearch.php?page=78 and go forward to page 79 and 80. Any of those look like what you've got? If not, there's a strong possibility that you're just seeing old, after-mint damage. Maybe from the old coin rollers which often gouged circular gouges not far from the rim, right about where you're describing. |

1955 S Wheat Penny Error
Without a better picture, it would be difficult to tell what you have. But
cents from the late 50's and early 60's are notorious for having a myriad of minor errors. Check a few of the coins on my error pages. http://coins.richlh.com/Coins/Errors//Errors.htm http://coins.richlh.com/Coins/Errors//Errors2.htm Nothing spectacular or valuable here but interesting none the less. -- Richard My coin Links: http://coins.richlh.com/Coins/MyCoinLinks.htm "Shain OConnell" wrote in message nk.net... I updated the picture with a new one. It's somewhat better, but not
perfect. You can definately see the numbers better though. Thanks for you input and your help. "Richard L. Hall" wrote in message ... I cut the new photo out and pasted it into Photoshop so I could enlarge and sharpen it to see the anomoly. I could see what appears to be a die scratch thru the last "5" in the date. It was likely made by a tool which scratched the die in that area, hence all coins struck with that die would show the same defect.. Intersting, but not worth much more, if any, than any standard 1955-D in EF condition. Ira |
