REQ: Info on Allentown, NJ 5 cent from Dec 1 1862

My brother lives in Allentown and discovered this note for sale and was
wondering what its history is. Any info anyone can share is greatly
appreciated.

Looks to be a typical civil war era private merchant scrip note.
There were a huge number of these issued during the civil war when
coins were scarce due to hoarding.
Most of them appear to be dated 1862 which I believe is also when the
official US
govt. fractional currency was first issued as well. Don't know
anything about the
merchant themselves, if there are any Allentown city directories
around from that
period there might be more information in there. Would make for an
interesting
research project.
