1) Should be.

2) Would be, in any organization not trying to hide something.

3) Doesn't appear to be.

It was around February or March wasn't it? I just tried looking for it two
weeks ago and it was no longer there.

For an organization that wants the public to recognize their New Logo, etc,
the ANA is one of the most secretive groups I have ever run across. It
makes me, as a member, wonder what they feel they need to hide. Even if I
don't donate to the United Way, I can find exactly how much money they took
in, and where it went.

The ANA doesn't make it clear how much they are taking in from sources like
their NGC agreement, what they estimate the value of the current contract
is, or how they decide on awarding future contracts. They refuse to
publicly respond to problems, preferring to only answer questions in private
(where they can later deny everything).

How about it, folks? What are you hiding? What it is we'll notice that
will make us want to kick out all the incumbents? How many votes are being
cast by staff members who aren't necessarily even coin collectors, but are
members because they work for the ANA, making them essentially paid proxies?
In fact, how many members out of how many in total are employees? How much
did we pay to have some dyslexic six-year-old crayon a New Logo for us?

I just explained "why". She's taking advantage of people who have fallen
for the hype. That's her job as a businessperson.

The lady running the bookstore two doors down the street thinks the Atkin's
diet is stupid and unhealthy.

How many copies of the book would you like to buy?

Yep, she's just a legitimate business person ain't she Fred?

Unh, the contract. NGC is declared the "Offical Grading Service" of the ANA and
in return for this and other valuable considerations, NGC writes the ANA a large
check. All offical, approved by the board, and publically disclosed.

Some of us have a problem with it, in that it makes it difficult for the ANA to
go after bottom feeding grading services like ACG with the appearence of a
conflict of interest.

Bruce

ANA 162074

NGC is the Official Grading Service but what documentation do you have that the ANA is taking money from NGC?

JAM

If by "taking money" you mean something underhanded or illegal, then the ANA
most certainly is not taking NGC money. If you mean "does NGC regularly pay ANA
money for the use of their name", the answer is yes. And while some of us find
the ethics and wisdom involved in the contract questionable, it is perfectly
legal and aboveboard.

The actual details are in the ANA financial report, which should be available
off of the website.

Bruce (Am i understanding the question?)

That's all I'm asking. Where can we find that documentation. I can't seem to find it on the ANA site.

JAM

Hmm....it was on the ANA site, but I can't find it now. You may have to email
Barry or some such, if you don't have the issue of the Numismatist that detailed
everything.

Bruce
