Default Namiki Vanishing Point?

I know jack about fountain pens, but having bought one recently I'd like to
buy another and have selected the Nimiki VP as a target.

I like the clip design of the pre-Pilot pens and would like to find one for
sale in a common finish that is reasonably priced. I'm not interested in
the original box etc.
Ebay is a likely source, but I'm leery of overpaying out of ignorance.

What can be considered a reasonable price for a used VP?

Thanks,

Mike

$45 to a bit more...depends on the model. Modern? $45 to $55 if it has signs
of wear, $65 to $75 if flawless...then again some models sell for less than
others.

They are versatile pens. The metallic painted models wear badly (will show
major brassing in time), the plastic earlier models wear well. I prefer
something other than brass though - something that wears well over time. Just
IMHO.

FWIW, Namiki and Pilot are one and always have been. The original
Namiki Vanishing Point was known as the Pilot Capless.

Nice pens, I really like mine (which I paid full price for at
Colorado Pens about 3 or 4 years ago).

I write a great deal, and my Namiki Pilot has never failed me. I have to
echo Jim, why not a new one? They are around for very reasonable prices.
Mine came with the piston converter and the usual nice box, and was around a
hundred.

Great choice for a workin' persons pen. I would make sure you get the
converter. I put blue Qwink in mine. I found the cartridges OK, however I
find tossing the empty plastic away a bit wasteful. Plus, you can choose
what ink you put in the pen a bit easier.

I, for one, prefer the older style so I can understand why he might want
the old style used or NOS.

Years ago, the company started off as Namiki overseas and then they
Americanized the name to Pilot for US distribution and acceptance here.
Eventually they started bringing over high end pens with the Namiki name
on them. When they saw that the Namiki name was fully accepted here as
being a high quality pen, they pretty much scrapped the Pilot name.

The Namiki Vanishing Point is still called the Pilot Capless here in
Europe.

And now have gone full circle. It's Pilot again!
