Default Received in Change

Nothing special, but surprising just the same. Received an 1889 Indian Cent
in change from a convience store this morning. Heavily corroded and pitted
and you can barely read the date except (with my eyes) under magnification.
Still a pretty cool find from change.

Maybe more kids spending Dad's coin collection.

I remember a friend of mine, when we were kids, took many bu rolls of 1938
pds, 1939ps and 1950 D nickels, along with 1955s bu cent rolls to a 7-11
every morning for about a month. We bought slurpies and snacks with them.
I bet there was a worn carpet trail to his parents dresser. But it was just
a matter of time before something else was worn out. :)

I work as a cashier for Sam's Club and I see all kinds of old coins in my
cash drawer all the time. I got an 1897 IHP (in pretty bad condition.
Wouldn't you be after 107 years? ;-) ), 1 Euro cent from Ireland, a couple
silver quarters, tons and tons of wheat pennies, and others that I can't
remember right now. It's nice to be in a position to get these coins as
soon as I see that they are there.

I didn't know you could spend, mm, peripheral money in the UK that
way! I know you get UK coins in Gibraltar. Can you spend Jersey or St.
Helena pounds in the UK?

Non UK coins of the same size and value as UK coins do not officially
circulate in the UK but the vast majority in circulation will be spent
again if someone notices that they have been given one in change.

This would include coins from the Channel Islands and Gibraltar and
possibly some other countries with coins identical in size colour and
face value to the current UK issues. Billy

If the cashier accepts them.
