What about bands?
Aerosmith being named after Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis is a myth. Hot Water Music (Bukowski) The Shipping News (Proulx) Steely Dan (Burroughs' Naked Lunch) Steppenwolf (Hesse) Deadeye Dick (Vonnegut) Trout Fishing in America (Brautigan) Mott the Hoople (Manus) The Phantom Tollbooth Bumblepuppy (Huxley's Brave New World) The Doors (Huxley's Doors of Perception) Augie March (Bellow) Counting Crows (old English poem) Creed (Stephen King's Pet Cemetery) Supertramp (Davies) BRBR And don't forget: Uriah Heep (Dickens) "Justice is as strictly due between neighbor nations as between neighbor citizens. A highwayman is as much a robber when he plunders in a gang, as when single; and a nation that makes an unjust war is only a great gang." --Benjamin Franklin |

I know there are tons of bookstores with names from novels, but what about non-book companies? I wonder if this will continue. If you look at the Lego sets you will notice that all the Harry Potter characters names are registered trademarks. I don't think we'll be seeing "Harry and the Gryffindors" on any marquees any time soon. -- Mark Heaely marknews(at)healeyonline(dot)com |
