ebay policy on fakes and forgeries ... and imitations
the new policy, has stalled bids ... with lots being withdrawn . a
new requirement - a "Fake handstamp" must be applied to objects prior to listing ... to me, this does make sense. devalues items ... and is a form of decrimination. neither the FIP or AIEP experts use handstamps ... they issue an opinion only ... genuine or not . handstamps have been retired . why is ebay and aps following this policy ? better to relist these items, in their own category : fakes, forgeries, fanatsies and imiatations. comments welcomed ... |

ebay policy on fakes and forgeries ... and imitations
Recently Ebay has been the subject of CRIMINAL investigations by Interpol.
Ebay was allowing some of its power sellers to sell counterfeits and forgeries of the stamps of Germany, among others. The German government did what any prudent entity should, namely charge the accomplice, in this case Ebay. Victims who bought this unmarked garbage were rightfully enraged. Articles relating to one such seller have evn appeared in ngs. Stamps which are counterfeits, forgeries and fakes, need to be visibly stamped as such, as used to happen with the great forgeries by Sperati and Fournier as I recall. just my 2 pesos worth. Fakes bought without mark can too easily be resold as non-fakes or otherwise used to fool somebody -- if not on EBay, then elsewhere. If being marked devalues items so drastically, then I suspect people were buying with such intentions. |

If the reverse is stamped in the expertiser's name does that mean it is
a forgery or real? I was under the assumed it was real. The fakes were stamped falsch in the case of German stamps. Many times the expertiser is placed on the back. Sometimes it can be a collector's mark for their own purposes. Falsch, faux, facsimile, etc. would be fakes for sure. |

Well -er- many times anyway. the question of handstamps ... is only followed by aps and ebay ... other sites and dealers, the FIP AIEP ISJP, expert committees all follow a more realistic approach ... simply list the items in their appropriate category ... "forgeries and fakes" with a descriptive paragraph ... this is a branch of philately, still being discovered and researched ... it is a fascinating field of study ... |
