Australian online stamp catalogue
renster wrote in message ... Just wondering if anyone knows of any restrictions (legal or otherwise) to creating stamp catalogues online. I want to expand my mysql and php skills by creating an online catalogue of australian stamps and allowing people to create stamp albums and trade lists. I can scan stamps images from my own small collection and gather information from hobbyists. I have seen a couple of sites that ask for payment but i think this sort of thing should be free and run by a community of enthusiasts and hobbyists. If anyone knows of any sites that already run such a thing and I haven't found it I would like to know about it. Cheers rene Hi, Well there is the Stanley Gibbons Allworldstamps catalogue at http://www.allworldstamps.com/ This is essentially free. However i don't know of any free sites for printing album pages. I have read on this group in the past reservations about the legality of producing copies of full size colour images of stamps online or in print, but I don't think there was any final 'legal" opinion. It might be worth checking into before you "burst into print" Anyway thats my tuppence worth hope its some use to you walter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.510 / Virus Database: 307 - Release Date: 14/08/2003 |

Well there is the Stanley Gibbons Allworldstamps catalogue at
http://www.allworldstamps.com/ This is essentially free. Yes, I had a trial run of it and it worked well. However i don't know of any free sites for printing album pages. I'm not sure what you mean here. Being a novice I am sometimes get confused with the terminology used in the newsgroup I have read on this group in the past reservations about the legality of producing copies of full size colour images of stamps online or in print, but I don't think there was any final 'legal" opinion. It might be worth checking into before you "burst into print" I'll have to do some more hunting around. As per other online catalogues or webpages that show stamps I would simply show scans of stamps I own. Other people can scan their own stamps and add them to their "virtual album" if they like. Essentially, the site would be just like with the Stanley Gibbons Allworldstamps catalogue but with less breadth and more specialisation, and instead be free to use. Thanks |
