Fradulent Seller (artgallery10)
I wanted to add this to the discussion of artgallery10, but thought it might
get lost in the sea of "re"s that had built up. I found this on ebay's feedback page for this guy: User artgallery10 (private) has elected to make their Feedback Profile private so comments are not available for public viewing at this time. Please contact artgallery10 (private) directly for information about specific feedback comments. |

Since NO negatives show (the scorecard is not visible), this would tend to make bidders wonder what's really going on. No one here has done anything but put publicly-available information available....and his past 30-day sales history IS public. Potential bidders, wanting information (but not being able to see the feedback) will go to one place: the sales history and those lists of 99-cent items. Kris |

Talking about Hemingway signatures.
Have a look at this one 3535041166 Here Hemingway apparently doesn't know his first name, spelling it Ernesllet Hemingway. Of course he could be roaring drunk when he wrote it. Any comments? |

The Bar of the "H" of "Hemingway" extended to cross the "t" of "Ernest" is characteristic of Hemingway's signature, but the extra bit is strange. It could conceivably be taken for a "W", but that would leave the "t" of "Ernest" uncrossed and, in any case, Hemingway's middle initial (which did not usually form part of his signature) was "M" (for "Miller"). Also uncharacteristic is the "E" of "Ernest". It starts from right to left, which is at best unusual, I think, and is very jerky (suggesting a forgery, perhaps or, as you say, perhaps he was just drunk). And the "i" is dotted implausibly high - unless, of course, he *was* in his cups. On the other hand, one would expect a forger to imitate a more conventional Hemingway signature. I'd like to see - if they exist - some examples of signatures including his middle initial Intriguing, and the perfect reminder - as if I needed one! - of why I am not a collector of signed firsts. (I have a few but they are mostly of the kind it would not occur to anyone to try and forge.) -- John http://rarebooksinjapan.com |
