Christian (well-covered) I am the same size as Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Matt Stairs...five feet nine inches, 210 pounds. I have weighed as little as 160, but that was thirty years ago. ;-) Yes, I am thick-boned. I am well-covered. I am a barrel with legs. I do not miss many meals, but many meals are shredded wheat. ;-) I would be fat if I gave up sports. Alan 'do not call Obelix fat' |

Christian Feldhaus wrote: Although the comic books were originally made with French readers in mind, the fact that they were not simply translated contributed to their international success, I think. For example, a quotation from or allusion to Descartes in French could be Lord Byron in Englisch, Goethe in German, etc. Here is a map with the German names ... http://www.comedix.de/lexikon/special/familie.php ... and this is the "official" site (in several languages): http://www.obelix.com.fr/ Brilliant!! :-) Alas, when René Goscinny (who originally wrote the texts) died, much of the original language related humor got lost in the later volumes. Don't like the Asterix movies much either, for the same reason. What the publishers do now is "translate" the books into various dialects. Now that I find amusing again g. Christian I haven't actually `read' any Asterix books for about 12 years now. I would struggle to justify buying them now, as my `kids' have grown up. Maybe when the grandchildren are a year or two older I can get into them again :-) Mind you, I might not have missed much in the interim from what you are saying. The old ones really are the `classics'. Ian |
