"private" wrote in message ... right? Because the new nickels are going to be discontinued after 2006. Who knows. Go back to the archives and see if anyone in 1999 was saying "Buy all the 1999 9 coin Silver Proof Sets you can afford at $29.95 each because in 2003 they will be selling for $220.00".. would you have believed them or done it??.. They put a limit of two (2) on those sets when they started selling them. Then after a while, they lifted the limit and let the people who bought two buy five more, but the people who hadn't bought any could only buy five. Then towards the end of the sales period, I think, if I'm disremembering this correctly, they lifted all the limits and they sold out almost immediately, so the big dealers were never able to buy their usual thousands, and most of them ended up in the hands of regular Schmoos in twosies, which is why they're now selling for almost ten times the original price. The regular Clad 1999 Proof Sets and the Quarters Only Clad Sets are also selling for multiples of issue price. Then the next year the 2000 Silver Proof Sets came out and there weren't any ordering limits and the big dealers jumped on them thinking "We're not going to make that mistake twice" and so of the 1999 - 2003 9 coin Silver Proof Sets, the ones that are selling for the least now are the 2000 Sets. The 2001 and 2002 sets are selling for double or triple issue price, and the 2003 sets haven't sold out yet and are still available at $31.95 each, as many as you want. The trick with trying to figure out what's going to shoot up in value is that you usually don't know until it's too late to load up on them. The last "sure thing" that I can remember was the 2001 Buffalo Dollar. So will a three year run of sets with the new Nickels in them perform the same way as the 1999 sets did? You got a crystal ball? Harv A better bet is to buy some stock in the album manufacturers and hold it for 18 months. ;-/ The nickel's biggest impact will be in persons like myself that will now need a new book. It all depends on what they do with the silver sets...after all, the nickels
AREN'T SILVER. Therefore, if they have two nickels in the silver sets, you'll have the 2004 and '05-S proof nickels somewhat more common than the rest of the coins [aside from the cent], as they're the same metallic compesition. That would make them somewhat LESS valuble. eric l. |

The commemorative nickels will be discontinued after 2005. The 2006 set should
have the old design (subject to change,, of course). Tom DeLorey .. Subject: The 2004 - 2006 proof set should be valuable From: private Date: 11/7/2003 11:25 AM Central Standard Time Message-id: right? Because the new nickels are going to be discontinued after 2006. |

The 2004 - 2006 proof set should be valuable Because the new nickels are going to be discontinued after 2006. Is this the same philosophy which dictates that a 1981 Proof Set (issue price $11.oo) now goes for a whopping $8.oo - $10.oo due its inclusion of the Last Year of the SBA Dollar? {reference: eBay search Proof Sets 1981 / completed items} 8-?
