Dealers Specializing in Family Histories
"John A. Stovall" wrote in message
... Has any one run in to shops or dealers who specialize in Family Histories and Genealogies? I find when using these types of publications they are usually of limited publication and only found in local and regional library genealogy collections. I also see a demand for such items by genealogy researchers for personal collections as the ones in Libraries are non-circulating reference items. Are there people filling this need. I see the same for local histories. I also see some bring good prices when they come on the market. Read the letters of Ernie Wessen, of Midland Rare Books fame, collected in *Rare Book Lore* (Ohio U. Pr., 1992). It seems that in almost every letter Wessen is going on about some county or family history or another. He had standing orders among his scouts for histories of almost all the counties in Ohio. It seemed like a good part of his business. I haven't encountered genealogical book specialists, but it seems likely that there are some. William M. Klimon http://www.gateofbliss.com |

I know of a couple such dealers in the UK, but the only reason I know them is
because they do the general London bookfairs each month. As far as I can make out, there are specialist genealogical fairs in different parts of the country in the same way as there are bookfairs, where the dealers are a mixture of rare/secondhand booksellers, new booksellers, genealogy software sellers, and people selling anything which might be useful for the subject. Completely separate subculture I guess, which has only a small overlap with book-collecting per se; perhaps it's the same in the States. There seems to be a bunch of genealogy newsgroups, so if you're looking for something specific, you might try one of those. Sandy "John A. Stovall" wrote in message ...
