Dutch translation, airmail rate
Can anyone provide a translation for the Dutch phrase/sentence, "Dit
papier weegt met bijbehoorend omslag 5 gr." It's imprinted on a sheet of airmail stationery mailed in 1934. I'm guessing that it's "Old Dutch" for "This paper weighs less than 5 grams, including the envelope." I've found on-line translations for everything but "weegt" and "met" and "bijbehoorend". Also, can anyone comment on the airmail rates for Netherlands in 1934? I gather that it was 6 cents plus the triangular airmail stamp for letters that were not overweight. I'm specifically interested in rates for the Netherlands-Netherlands Indies (Java) route. Bob |

No idea about the airmail-rate, sorry. Peter |

I gather that it was 6 cents plus the triangular airmail stamp for letters that were not overweight. I'm specifically interested in rates for the Netherlands-Netherlands Indies (Java) route. Bob, there's an extensive Dutch page at http://www.po-en-po.nl/tarieven/tarnipws.html You'd have to put it into a translation web site, because it's a lot of text. It basically talks about postal stationary, not letters with stamps. My Dutch catalogue has a few remarks about the 1931 Queen Wilhelmina air mail stamp. It's a 36 ct stamp: which 6 ct ordinary postage + 30 air fraight addition. This was the tariff for 5 g pieces to the Dutch Indies, which explains the remark that you asked the translation for". I know nothing of the subject itself, but for details on the translations you can email me at jandoggen planet nl Bye Jan |
