If the facts are as stated, then your complaint was just. But your post
raises another interesting question: should this group be used to 'name and shame' bad booksellers? Ebay's feedback system is imperfect because Ebay is imperfect. I have personally puchased about fifty items through Ebay over the years, and on two occasions got badly cheated. However, Ebay are disinterested in resolving these things fairly, and appear keen just to safeguard their income stream from even bad sellers. Thus one dealer got away with selling me a broken clock by falsely alleging that I had not even bothered to try and wind it up (of course I had), whilst another had feedback exposing him as a fraudster with criminal convictions for violence removed because he has acheived 'power-seller' status. (On that occasion, Ebay were extremely reluctant to listen to a transcript of a telephone conversation in which the bad seller freely admitted to rigging auctions with his best friend, or to view emails in which violence was threatened should any complaint be lodged with Ebay). Given this obstacle - the unwillingness of any agency, whether it be Ebay or Abe or anyone else, to actually reprimand their paying dealers for cheating the end customer - then perhaps a 'name and shame' facility would be useful. However, I also believe that the shamed seller should be alerted to the naming, so that they can, if appropriate, defend their reputation and put their own views across. Clearly Ebay censor feedback in their sellers' interests; perhaps an uncensored system is required, if only to correct this curious imbalance. |

Incorrect book description
I have just received a book that I purchased through Abebooks. The description stated that the book was in Very Good to Fine condition. When received I found that the covers were dirty with the corners bumped, spine faded, a bookplate had been removed and that there was very significant foxing. The seller was Dorothy Feldman, 40 Camborne Ave., San Carlos, Ca., 94070. This has happened to my on several occasions. In the past I have returned the item but have reached the point where I hesitate to buy from any dealer that I don't know. Buyers beware.

Whereas presumably, they could possibly have "listened to" the original recording of the telephone conversation, from which the transcript in question was made. Cheers michael adams a helping hand Presumably Barker spends much of his time "listening" to transcripts and other assorted voices audible only to himself. It's a pity that the feedback exchange regarding his inability to wind a clock was removed. Pretty funny stuff. Technology and Barker do not apparently mix well. Cheers, John |

Perhaps instead of trashing the dealer publicly you might call her and explain the situation. Sometimes orders get mixed, the wrong piece gets sent, and so on. |
