Default Superior Galleries cancelled Santa Clara Auction

The Santa Clara Elite Auction scheduled this week by Superior
Galleries was cancelled, along with all upcoming auctions. An email
announcment, received on April Fool's Day, was at first thought to be
a joke.

The following might be of interest...

On February 19, 2009, Stanford International Bank, Ltd.)(”SIB”)
Superior’s primary lender and a significant stockholder of record of
the company was placed in both domestic and Antiguan receiverships. It
is uncertain at this time what impact these events will have on
Superior. All obligations between Superior are current and there are
no intercompany obligations between the companies. DGSE intends to
assert claims against SIB in connection with the acquisition of
Superior.

I was at a show today and there was considerable mumbling about this among
the dealers and more knowledgeable collectors.

Were you able to understand anything of what they said, despite the
mumbling?

Heh, touché on me. Mostly, the tenor of the talk was, "We're not at all
surprised." Apparently the once-golden business model has eroded and
tarnished.

One wonders how the owners of coins consigned to Superior are feeling.
Will they get their coins back in a reasonable time or will they vanish
into thin air?

You know how coin dealers are James. They would never want you to
think they were surprised by anything.
