I guess they got it right from the horse's mouth, eh? He was caught
"uttering" a forged document. :^P

This can be funny sometimes, the way one culture uses a word and the
way another interprets it.

The expression is correct as it goes back to the days when most working
class people were illiterate and therefore could not do the4 counterfeit but
could 'utter' the deal to pass it.
