Default A salute to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It always pleases me to see so many Poets
celebrated on stamps.
The sweetness is accentuated when one comes
from within our own ranks.
(even if he did have some help from Henry)

A little piece of brilliance, to one of the world's most loved poems.

Note Hiawatha on his own stamp from The Gambia (top left).

Hiawatha, who was fundamental in the creation of the League
of the Five Iroquois Nations also appeared on a stamp from
the Marshall Islands. The stamp was issued on Feb. 1, 1999,
by the Marshall Islands Postal Service as part of a set of 12
stamps celebrating Great American Indian Chiefs.
