A coin that has a mechanism?

would appreciate some positive chi or whatever that
granola head stuff is.
thanks.

I bought an Alfa Romeo 6 cyl 5 speed today,
drove it 300 feet, parked it and may never drive
it again, I should have bought coins.

Why the big coins, don't you save copper
or zinc bullion? :-)

This link says Gore owns a lot of zinc;

I guess I was thinking of the coin ad running all the time
on TV with a hinged device, but it hurts to mention the name.

Saw that ad the other night. Talk about tacky.......

approved helmet, armor, leather, fanatical safety check and
a very private road. VERY infrequently.

Sounds like you've got the right approach.

but thanks, dave.

Yuppers. Looks like I was right, that noise was a conn rod. Short
block should wipe my silver budget for a month or three, damn.

no joy doin a tear down?

If you find joy in finding a piston not where it belongs with part of a
rod, and the rest of the rod on a crank, then I'd guess it's joyful.
The bore is gouged pretty bad, maybe it can be sleeved. Not sure if a
16HP Kohler is up for that sort of thing. I may take this time to
upgrade to as big of an engine as the hydro will handle. Guys use this
tractor (JD 140/300 chassis) for garden tractor pulls around here, so
I'm guessing the drivetrain is up to the extra horsepower. No idea on
root cause yet, oil is new.

On a coin-related topic, have you broken down the 40% halves you're
finding in bags by date/mint, or do you just count 'em? Are there any
varieties in them, or are the a completely uninteresting series?

i meant isn't there an easier/cheaper than buying a short
block? sorry for the confusion.

Yeah probably but if I can bolt this head and intake onto a beefier
engine, I'm going to take this chance to get a few extra horses.
Haven't done any research on it yet.

i have done casual surveys. 1968's are the most common and
66's least. haven't bothered with %. as a series, they are
pretty dull. the only thrills are the rare 70-d's and the
sms's.

SMS? What is this please?

i've found 11 70-d's, maybe a dozen total of the other 40% s
mints. the 70-d's run from ms67 to ef 40, the other s mints
ms61 to beat vf. the mint-only series seem to get a lot of
wear. i would not have guessed that.

Well once it's released, that shows you that people aren't looking for
them. I guess that's not surprising.

there are very few die cracks, or other errors. no doubling
errors i've found, off metal and only 2 die clips, one a
full 50%, sold for major money. one off center, 10% dated, a
65.
that's all out of the silver.

How in the world does a 50% clip ever circulate?!?!?!

you know what the 90%'s are like.
oh. abou 24 sms, mostly with wear, but one spectacular
frosty i'm guessing at ms66. cameo both sides. also sold for
good money.

Argh. Acronym problems. The only SMS I know is Single Malt Scotch.

would you believe some dumbass troll try to deride me for
making money on bullion to get my new care for cheap?
dumb.....

Lovely. There's always one. Why in the world would someone have a
problem with someone who looks through coins & picks out the good ones?
Sheesh.

Oh - about that - regarding pennies - "the mechanism" works. Admirably.
If I hadn't been tearing down a tractor engine I would have got the
final tweaks in but right now, zero false-hits and only a few
false-rejects.

yes. my fave source is pc cpu heatsinks. many pc shops will
"allow" me to haul amy their excess or obsolete cpu coolers.
all the fins are aluminum and the best have either round or
square copper cores. i seperate the two, take of the fans
which i melt down for the copper windings so that i have
clean copper and clean aluminum.
i watch spot and when either is highest i call to see who's
paying most. then it's of to the recycler.
much copper=much silver=much collector coins or a cult car
like a supra.

I have a slot one heat sink that doesn't need a fan,
it must weigh a full pound, but I never even thought
about scrapping it.

You are performing a valuable service, the more
people willing and knowledgable enough, the lower
metal prices stay.

I don't know what it means, but I was told the
local scrap yards have dropped the price for clean
heavy copper to $2, and other prices are down as
well.
I checked copper spot last night, and it seemed
to still be over $3, so I am guessing all the scrap dealers
pick a time to sell all, and start paying what they think
it will be next time they sell.
And I just saw on the news that a big copper
mine union has reduced the pay raise they were seeking
in order to negotiate the end to a 10 day strike date.

It could be something else, like they all sell
to the same guy, and he is running out of funds.

One guy has a bunch of motor contactor
contacts, they are supposed to be pure silver,
but I think they are silver soldered to a steel
mounting strip.

I don't have many non-premium copper
cents, so I am going to spend them to buy gas.

I really enjoy searching coins, but to have
a way to avoid the same coins, I should open an
account at another bank that has a few branches.
I found a few clips in 5000 coin bags, but
most have no date.
The last box of halves I got had no reeding
hardly at all, apparently the casino had used them
in machines till they looked bad, then sent them
back to the coin service, which sent them to my
bank when I ordered them.

It is good to get the really good errors and
rare specimens to save them from being circulated
till they are junk.
