Bent nib. Must hit with hammer. Very small hammer; very carefully.

Is it the same on older Pelikans, say a 400NN?

Three pieces: Nib, feed, and feeder ring. The base of the nib lies over
the feed, and the feeder ring slides over and around the two pieces (nib
and feed) to hold them tightly together. The outside of the feeder ring
is threaded and threads inside the end of the barrel (gripping section).
The linked pic shows the three pieces.

AFAIK, all Pelikans (dating back to the old 100s... cir. 1929-) use this
basic design.

Does the word "burnish" ring a bell? -- B

In a previous posting I disagreed with Bernadette (sp?) on this subject.

I can't believe that even after I removed a couple Pelikan nib units and
took a quick look I still got it wrong.

I was always taught that if I made a mistake it was better to "fess up" and
admit it.
That said; "B L" is 100% correct!
This isn't the first time I have made a mistake and it (unfortunately) won't
be the last.
Ken.

No, a hammer rings a bell. You might burnish a glass harmonica, though.

Thank you all for the help. As always a few hours fumbling about can
save several minutes of research.
