Not that I know of. I'm not a Mormon historian; just a local
who's lived through lots of publicity on the case (and read both
books years ago). Hofmann's forgery explained that a white salamander
gave "the word" to Smith, rather than Smith's story of translating
golden plates with a seer stone.

Ahaa! It's all falling into place now.

David Ickke, a former footballer and TV Sports reporter in the UK who
may be known to you, has long claimed that the world had been over by,
and that prominent people are in fact all lizards. And salamanders
are sorta lizards.

You mock these people at your peril.

Exactly! What about him ?

Although when read backwards in the original French, there
are reputed to be as yet undiscovered hidden meanings in
"A la Recherche du Temps Perdu"

So maybe the jury is still out on that one.

equal 9th place, 1979 All-England Summarise Proust Competition.

Sorry, I should have placed quotations around the statement. That was
the start of what IMHO is the funniest skit that Monty Python ever
did- followed closely by "Funny Walks/Complaints'.
It starts with a smarmy host introducing an obviously brain-damaged
Rugby player (oxymoron?).
