Three Porcelain Frozen Charlottes dating from early 1900s - sourced from
a Confectionary company in Australia - not sure where they were
manufactured. Show some signs of soil and stains - pik is very clear -
you are bidding on three (3) dolls as shown.
FROZEN CHARLOTTES 2.5 Inch PORCELAIN HAND-PAINTED
Frozen Charlottes and Frozen Charleys are a wonderful addition to any
doll collection. Originally called Badekinder (german word for bathing
child) they where also referred to as Pillar Dolls or Tea Cup dolls.
Today we simply know them as Frozen Charlottes for girls, and Frozen
Charleys for boy dolls. These dolls came onto the market around 1850 and
remained through 1914, produced by many porcelain factories which also
manufactured toy articles. They where usually unmarked. They came in all
sizes, and many types of porcelain. white, pink or black skin color,
they usually had molded black painted hair, but they also had brown or
blond painted hair, and rarely also with wigs. Some have decorations
such as bands, bows or bonnets adorning their head, and some with molded
clothes and or molded boots.
Frozen Charlottes and Charleys came in a wide variety of sizes. My
smallest Frozen Charlotte is one inch tall. This tiny size would
sometimes be baked into cakes, the lucky little girl biting into the
cake would find her prize. This size commonly would be sold for a penny
and would be attached to a long strip of paper displaying the little
dolls. The little girl could tear the doll she wanted off the strip of
paper and hand her penny to themerchant.

You will find these dolls in many different sizes, types of porcelain,
and positions standing, sitting, and also lying in the bathtub.
