Franz Léhar is represented on quite a number of Austrian stamps and yet
there is not a single stamp of Richard Tauber who arguably revived Léhar's
career when it had already flagged. Considering that between '25 and '34
Léhar wrote six operettas specifically for Tauber (became known as
Tauberlieder) I find it strange that he has never appeared on an Austrian
stamp. He was perhaps the greatest ambassador for Vienna. Does anyone know
if he appears on some other country's stamps?
Thanks in advance.

You may also find it strange Tony,
that he recorded on the same record label as the Beatles (in Europe)

You may have to slip in a "Cinderella" instead
there is a nice picture of him (resplendent with monacle) on a cigarette
card in Wiki.

Thanks Rod.

A local lady-friend who will be celebrating her 95th in June can never talk
to us enough about her childhood in Austria. She talks to us about Vienna
as if she were talking about yesterday's breakfast - refuses to acknowledge
the years that have passed and the changes they have brought. Her son and I
are putting together a slide show of Vienna with as many historical photos
as we can find and with Richard Tauber's "Wien, Wien, nur du allein" as
soundtrack. Since the lady is also a stamp collector - just Austria, but
breathtaking - I thought a stamp of Tauber in the final credits would add a
nice touch. No such luck.

Thanks for the Wiki card; it is now in my Tauber collection.

A good philatelist never gives up there Tony
there may be somewhere, lying in a shoebox patiently,
a FDC and/or cachet with Mr. Tauber on it.
That must be the fun when you specialise.

A quick Google brought up this signed postcard, which unfortunately
doesn't show the reverse, struck in 1933 apparently.

There is also signed LP record along (1938) with a signed Johnny Farnham
record for 200 pounds
