Default Metal Detectors

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is anyone out there that uses a metal detector. I'm thinking about buying one in the near future and would like to know if there is a particular brand that people use that is best for locating old coins/jewellry and that type of thing. Is there any newsgroups for this topic? I,m just trying to gather as much info as I can before i purchase one. Also, what are some of the interesting things you,ve found with your metal detectors. Thanks,

LD

I'm into detecting.
You would be hard pressed to find anything better than this
http://www.metaldetector.cc/index.as...ROD&ProdID=223 for a
first detector.

For under $500 or so. Its really a steal for under $200,has many advanced
features, has room to grow into yet isn't overly complex for a beginner.
If you feel the need to start off with top of the line equipment, take a
look here http://65.61.168.16/ .
Heres another well established company with alot of equipment and links
http://www.kellycodetectors.com/indexmain.htm

I'd stay away from the radio shack/walmart offerings.
As with anything, you get what you pay for.
Might find some useful info here
http://www.treasurenet.com/forum/metaldetecting/
I had some better links but lost them in a hard drive crash.

As with any hobby/past time/ passion, you'll get what you put in to it.
It can be frustrating at first with all of the bottle caps nails ect, but
its pretty rewarding once you get a feel of discriminating the junk from
the goodies.

The most valuable finds for me have been in the way of jewelry gold chains
rings ect. I've found well more than enough to pay for my detectors many
times over, so its a matter of the time spent doing it ... I enjoy doing it
so thats not really a factor.
Found 100's of $$ of pocket change, lots of wheats, IHP's, buffalos and
silver coins, but nothing spectacular so far.
Also some nice civil war relics, various tokens, knives, utensils ect.
Theres literally tons and tons of stuff waiting to see the light of day.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll spend a little time going over this stuff before I jump into anything. As always, the people in this group come through again!

After seeing this link, I went so far as to register with ePier. I'm
sure glad I went to the forums and saw all the dissatisfied users'
comments before I took the time to set up any auctions there.

Also, I tried to use their "suggest a new category" form, and it
crashed!
