Phileas vs Kultur
Hello,
I recently purchased a black Waterman Phileas. It writes beautifully in a fine nib, as do all of my other pens of this model. Unusual is that the cap band is missing, yet there is a ridge where that band would normally be. The nib is all gold in color, rather than 2-tone, and the etched emblem is missing near the end of the pen. I don't consider these defects, but rather differences. Is my Phileas actually a Kultur, the European version of this pen, I believe? I previously thought that the Kultur was a less-expensive, less detailed, more *fun* version of the Phileas. Phileas vs Kultur
If ther band is clearly missing, and if the nib is definitely different
than others of the same model (if you have seen them or can find a picture online), then send it back for a refund -- you were shipped and inferior product. Possibly something hybrid or one previously returned to the seller from a previous dissatisfied customer. |

Here's a picture of a pen described as a black Kultur: http://sccsales.50megs.com/watermankulturblack.jpg Here's Sanford's description of the Phileas and a picture (though you can't see the barrel ornament): http://www.sanfordcorp.com/sanford/consumer/jhtml/new-product/productdetail.jhtml?attributeId=SNATT20054&nrProdu ctId=SN19704W2 The Kulturs I've seen in Europe cost less than the Phileas. Kulturs are (or were) also available in fairly inexpensive transparent and translucent models with steel nibs (not gold-plated or gold-colored). -- Steve My e-mail address works as is. |
