Default Quarter Q (posted in MD forum)

Someone posted a picture of 2 quarters on an MD forum and was hoping
someone could explain why the 1964 quarter is slightly larger than the
typical quarter. It weighs in at 6.25 grams, which is the correct
weight for the coin.

Ideas? Perhaps someone took a hammer to it?
