Default ANA Coins in the Classroom

Just wanted to share with everyone that I submitted my application for the
seminar in FL over Christmas Break and was selected to attend.

WOW! I'm excited.

Congratulations!! Ummm, it seems they might not like rcc much, especially me...
Why? I dunno. eg You might want to pretend you never heard of me... or rcc...
Or just call me a rabble-rouser... OTOH, the instructors might have never heard
of rcc...
Have a good time, and encourage them to keep up the program, as a favor to me.
And ask about letting high school teachers, like Chysta, into the program... I
think it is important to have the teachers that are truly interested in
numismatics attend because they are the ones that should be giving the talks in
their locality when they get home. While a novice might be acceptable or better
than nothing, I cannot see how it would be better to have a newbie that teaches
7th grade and just wants a vacation in Fla rather than a genuine collector that
teaches 10th grade... At least they selected you, Art! Hey, any idea what you
put in the application that got you in?

Best,
Sam

I'll take notes and post a "review" and be happy to share what I learn.

Not sure what caused them to select me. I did describe some of the
activities that my classes have done using coins. Like using 1982 cents to
learn how to use a balance and a scale. We also used silver dollars, ike
dollars, Kennedy halves and even an RCC ember. The kids like them better
than just square blocks of wood. They also allow for very fine adjustments.

Perhaps they liked the idea that I travel to a number of schools and
therefore have more exposure to students than a lot of teachers who have the
same classes everyday.

I also told them about the YN program that I been assigned to get rolling at
my local coin club and our plans to do outreach to scout troops and extended
day programs at a few of the Middle Schools.

Whatever caused them to pick me, I'm happy about it.

Congratulations Art,
I'm sure that you will enjoy your experience in Florida. I attended the ANA
Coins in the Classroom this past summer in Colorado Springs. The class was
taught by Don Kagin and Lane Brunner. What a great time we all had. Let me
know if you have any questions about the class and what to expect.
Good Luck,
Tom Berryman

Ah ha! So you are the reason that I can't seem to get my site listed on
the ANA links page. You...You...Rabble-Rouser, you. ;-)
