Default Tristan da Cunha

The Magazine section of Sunday's paper featured Tristan da Cunha, very
interesting things I did not know.
Named by a Portugese sailor (da Cunha) who never landed on the island.
Population 270, seldom changes, all are farmers, eight surnames.
No outsiders can buy land or settle Tristan.
In 1961 a volcanic eruption forced the entire population to be
relocated to a military base in the UK. All returned to the islands
after many moons in the Mother Country.
There is no airport or theater. A cafe sometimes open and the town
hall is opened for meals should a cruise ship stop. (By appointment
only.)
Crayfish is a main income but due to weather fishing is limited to
about 65 days each year.
Postage stamps are also income for the island. Mail can take months to
arrive from Tristan.
I am amazed how organized this small group of people are. This is the
most remote Archipelago in the world.
I seem to remember another even more remote Island in the pacific that
could not survive due to its remoteness.
Anyone remenber that one?
