Default Questions you always wanted to ask...

Bailiwick defined.

The term " Bailiwick " has proved puzzling to several collectors. The Oxford English
Dictionary defines a Bailiwick as a district or place under the jurisdiction of a Bailiff'.
Specifically, the Bailiwick of Guernsey comprises the islands of Guernsey (the
administrative centre and seat of the States—the main parliament), Alderney (with its
own States), Sark (the one remaining vestige of feudalism in the British Isles, the
assembly of the Tenants being designated Chief Pleas and presided over by La Dame
de Sercq), Herm and Jethou. The Bailiff of Guernsey is the civil head of the Bailiwick,
President of the States of Guernsey and the Chief Justice of the Royal Court.
