What would you like to collect but can't afford to?
Pattern coins have always been interesting but the prices are just
way too high for me. |

spoke thusly... Pattern coins have always been interesting but the prices are just way too high for me. I like patterns a lot too. I have spent a lot of time looking a the 'coins that might have been' on the Harry Bass site and other sites. For me, I think it would be Colonials and other pre-Mint tokens and other issues. -- Stu Miller Read about Coins in the News: http://www.thestujoecollection.com/news.htm Director, RCC Mint http://www.TheStujoeCollection.com/rccmint |

But not being a Rockefeller I must appease my lust with humbler silver issues. -- Dave Parrish Scottish Banknotes and Coins: http://www.angelfire.com/ns/scottishmoney/index.html |

After acquiring a first gold coin, 1/10 OZ $2.00 Gold Eagle ....
gold, gold, gold!!!!. Such a beautiful thing. Amazing at the detail that is on Lady Liberty with an 18X loupe. Yes it's tiny, but it's gold and it's mine,...errr I mean the wife's! Hee Hee! Now that I am back to 1850 with a VF Large Cent with my cent type set, wish I could afford to continue on back into the 1700s in VF, but alas I am going to have to settle for less. Gold. 8-/ I hear ya. I have just two gold coins: a 1913 US 2 1/2 dollar gold piece and British gold half sovereign that I won in a raffle from the British Royal Mint at the 1984 ANA convention. Neither is worth a great deal of money but they are still neat. |

Which particular `colonies'?

Pattern coins have always been interesting but the prices are just
way too high for me. Some of the patterns are nicer than the designs that ultimately got used, particularly in the case of the Morgan dollar. If money weren't an issue, I'd collect Anglo-Saxon and Celtic coins of Great Britian. -- mark |
