"Local Address" stamps
As a follow up to the post about Singapore's Local Address stamps:
The USA also issued several stamps marked for Local Addresses Only and some post offices would not accept them for overseas mail, some would. The Old Glory 'G' stamps of 1994 are a good example. The idea went over like a lead balloon and did not last very long. Also along these lines were the Nonprofit Org, Bulk Rate and presorted First-Class stamps. These stamps required a speciasl permit for use. The problem was that USPS allowed collectors to have a premit at no cost to use these stamps for first class postage, just more confusion for the postal employees trying to shuffle the mail. All these stamps are non denominated or NVI. Impossible to collect because Singapore, South Africa and Sweden issued them very freely, in booklets containing just one NVI along other denominated stamps. Finland also has quite a few.
