1935 World Champion Bill Rogell has died
Friends,
1935 World ChampionDetroit Tiger, Bill Rogell has died at age 99. Bill also was a Detroit City Concilman for 40 years. I had the pleasure of working with him, at three different shows, and he always enjoyed meeting the fans and signing autographs. He was very proud of his playing days, with Charlie Gehringer and Hank Greenberg, and he belived he helped make them better ball players, and vice versa. Bill used to tell me he would live to be 100, and do a show. Sadly, he didn't quite make it. May God Bless you Mr. Rogell. Den |

Yes, Mr. Rogell was always kind to mail autograph seekers.
I will always remember pushing him around in his wheelchair, as he was telling me all about the old days. If he didnt like a player, her referred to them as a Shoemaker. I took him to eat and sat across from him, and he wanted to talk more, rather than eat. He was one of the very last from a dynasty long ago. To me he was a bridge to the past.................. When he would talk.......................I just lisened, as I knew, I was going to hear a great story, from a man who was THERE. It seemed he was equally proud of his work on the City Council, as he told me, that he was the man responsible for getting the Airport built. Den |
