.....and how about this lovely engraved 5 centime from Uruguay
with a delightful winged nymph.

Nice, nice. Do you know by chance who is the lady shown on the stamp?

BTW, a scan of a mint one or a less cancelled would be ever nicer (for my
web pages .

Thank you, Paul den Ouden, Bob Ingraham, and all

I do appreciate, and have -- like Paul -- noted that my
name has been removed from the page.

The old version with your name is always available in Google :

How does "Google" stand on this, as they seem to have an archive

Google don't keep the messages with the field « X-No-Archive: » set to

Sorry Victor,
She is referred to in Gibbons as "Type 80", not much huh?
Uruguay has some beautiful early issues, in fact "Type 79" is similar
in design but with a child effigy, which, and just guessing, would
probably be referred to as a sprite, fairy, goblin or elf .

As long as specialist catalogues command such high prices, our
knowledge of lesser known countries will suffer.
If prices were more reasonable, I am sure they would sell more.

I do not keep the mint and sterile, I specialise in the chipped, nibbled
torn, ripped and the unmade bed types. All mine have made their tour of duty,
but I love em.

But if there's a follow-up and those headers aren't set, then the
quoted parts of the thread are in the reply.

Hi Rod,

Scott (# 154 & 155) don't tell more about this "Type 80" lady, described
as "girls head"
Yvert (# 154 & 154a) neither : they call her "femme" (lady).

For the children (Scott 157 & 162) they are referred as Eros and
cornucopia & Eros.
Yvert just says Eros.

All the best,
Pierre Courtiade

Merci, Pierre.

I liked the stamp, so that now the lady (girl, femme) can be admired
uncancelled (which doesn't mean mint) at:

It looks like new born, isn't it? :-)

Well, I am glad you did the research, Bob. It must have been a "dirty
job" but , of course, someone had to do it. In all likelihood there well
be no medals awarded, and even less acclaim, but it is said theat they
also serve who only stand and observe.
