Default Curiosity Corner #310: Phil Fed of RSA emblem.

What's that strange emblem in the centre of the
Philatelic Federation of South Africa logo, you may ask?
http://cjoint.com/data/dwfQg7WHaI.htm

a circle with a curved and a straight line beneath.
This represents the ancient Postal
Stones, underneath which letters were placed by passing
sailors, with a request to have them conveyed to their
address by the next suitable passing ship.
The circle is the stone:
The curve, the letters,
and the straight line, the earth on which it rested.
