Long Island coin shops
I need a little help here from posters on Long Island-
If you can post the locations of some of the coin shops that may be-say-East of Patchogue or within an hour or so of it,it would be greatly appreciated. As many of you know, where I am there isn't much, only one or two,and I would apprediate any help from anyone who could help me and other eastenders out.You can post them here or reply to me via e-mail,and I will pass the info on to those who need it,as well as needing it myself. Thanks in advance-I know there aren't many from Long Island on here, but I know there are a few,and your help will be appreciated. phil |

Though I am ten plus years removed from LI I only ever remember two good (by
good I mean coins are the bulk of their business) shops. Martin Rubenstien on Sunrise Hwy in Bay shore. They were the first coin shop I ever went to. I would ride my bike there at 6-7 and look far more than I ever bought. I must have been a nuisance but nobody ever said anything. I still buy from them 30+ years later.Bay shore is of course west of Patchogue but the pickings on LI are/were slim. The only other place is Miller's Mint on Montauk Hwy in Patchogue. They are pretty good also and have a regular add in Coin World. They go to some of the bigger shows. I see them every year at the F.U.N. show in Orlando. East of Patchogue I only recall shops that specialize in cards or collectables with a small coin counter or some supplies. Thanks for the comeback!I'm WAY out east, but am willing to travel a bit when
I have the chance,if just to look. There are some in Patchougue,as well as in Huntington and Smithtown, and in Nassau county if I want to go that far.One poster here just moved to L.I. recently and asked me if I knew any desent shops,so this will help him out a bit,he's a ways west of me so he should have some places to pick from now,at least. I think Millers Mint is still around, but I haven't seen any ads for it in the phone book. Many dealers out this way sell out of their homes or out of safe deposit boxes,(you have to make an appointment with them to see their stock),which is a major hurdle if ou just want to look, most don't want to waste their time unless you have something specific in mind. out here, there are almost zero shops-I know of one,but I haven't been there in a while, but the guy was pretty varied in what he carried. I know the farther west you go,the better the pickings, but its a bit tough unless you want to travel and search for them. Thanks-I'm in Patchougue every couple of weeks,so I'll make it a point to check out Millers Mint.It sounds like one of the only ones within an hour of me! phil |
