Question about Obsolete Banknotes
Hello everyone,
I needs some help trying to find information about some obsolete banknotes. A cousin of mine asked me to look into her late husband's collection of coins and stamps and find out exactly what was there and what value it may have. Among the coins and stamps, I found four obsolete bank notes from The Oriental Bank of New York. There are two one dollar notes and two two dollar notes. About all I can tell is that they look like they were issued sometime in the 19th century. I have posted a scan he http://geoffaldrich.home.comcast.net/banknotes.jpg Does anyone have any information about The Oriental Bank or these bank notes? I appreciate any help you can offer me. Regards, Geoffrey |

Don't know any history of the bank but I can
tell you that these are not common notes. A leading dealer had a $1 note from this bank listed in his catalog 5 years ago in F+ (fine circulated condition) at $395.00!!! I would suspect that the $2 note is also quite rare. Your notes look to be in lesser grade but should still be worth substantial money. If you want to sell I would suggest Ebay under the obsolete currency section as the place to list them. |

I've dealt with him, he's a good dealer and he would be able to confirm if your examples are authentic or not. Let us know how it turns out! Interesting thing with obsoletes is that even if they are fakes but
contemporary to the era in which they first appeared they can still have substantial value. |

If I do that, I will definitely let you know! Regards, Geoffrey |
