Default Restoring books

I've got a few old books rescued from being burnt. If you can believe it, a
church was burning a load of old books that been donated in memory of loved
ones over the years.

All of them are around 200 years old, and in reasonable condition, but one
of them is all but falling apart. The pages are fine, but the front cover
has come away, as has the the brass edging. I don't know if its repairable,
but I would be interested to find out.

How far gone can a book be before its unrepairable?

A similar question: I knew a person who was a painter and bibliophine and he
used his painting skills to touch up paperback books and dust jackets.
How does a dealer list such work? (It seems almost comicable to ask this
question with such purists around and I've never seen any dealer list any such
touch ups).

(Do you have your ozone filters plugged in?)
