Default Restoring Lettering on Pens & Pencils

Someone told me that it is possible to restore colored lettering, gold
or otherwise, that one finds on advertising pens and pencils.

I have several that have faded lettering and I would like to have them
in their original condition.

Is this something I can do myself or is this something I have to farm
out to a repair shop? If it is not too difficult to do, where can I
obtain the needed supplies/equipment?

Thanks,

Michael Little
