Default Restoring Lettering to Stamped Names

A number of years ago I read a post somewhere on a method to restore names and ad copy that is on pens and pencils. It involved a material that was used as a filler to fill in the stamping. At the time I had no interest in the process.
Now that I do, I can't find the infoormation. I have looked and looked.
I think the material may be something found in an arts supply house.
Does anyone have any idea how this is done?...or any other way to restore this lettering?
Thanks

Halfhyde
