Default 448 Rockola jukebox

I have a Rockola 448 that puts record on turntable incorrectly first time it is used. If you retry it again the record will set on turntable correct, play and return correct. Now it will continue play to correct. Leave machine sit for a week and try it and first record is placed on turn table wrong. It misses spindle by about one inch. Could this be a stiff motor grease problem?

Perhaps? Try warming the tone arm spindle with a hiar dryer for a minute
or two prior to first play - if there is no problem then consider taking
apart and regreasing.

Maybe the gripper isn't releasing at the right time to drop the record squarely on the turntable. This is quite an exacting procedure with almost no room for any amount of tolerance. I had a similar problem several years ago with my Rockola 442, and solved it by covering the record carousel with cloth, plastic, or some other type of protection, and then using a sparing amount of WD-40 on the jaws of the gripper, being careful afterward to wipe them off afterward (WD-40 and vinyl do not get along). Run the selector through several cycles. Then shut it down and try again a week later. Hope this helps.
