One dealer returned over 13,000 PCGS inserts and is planning on
returning thousands more to NGC.

How many more drops before we get the bucket full?

Wow, over 13,000 from one dealer. That's a lot of crackouts.

I wonder how many were successful upgrades. Of those, I wonder how many
were cracked out a second time.

I wonder if PCGS or NGC are going to chase down the serial numbers to determine
that, or just sort 'em, count 'em and deduct the totals accordingly.

Its greater than one out of every 1,000 PCGS submissions. And
this is for just one dealer.

Contursi is grinning from ear to ear, but you have to love that
uneasy, forced smile on David Hall's face... thankful to be able to
update the 'pop reports' to some extent, yet probably not too
comfortable posing with 13,535 examples of discarding of his firm's
service.

Seriously, doesn't the number of resubmissions simply reinforce the
perception that PCGS is too conservative in grading coins? Isn't that
perception what virtually everyone who grades wants to reinforce?
Ever hear of a grader bragging about being very liberal with grades?
Come to think of it.....
Never mind.

Does it have to be either/or, either too conservative or too liberal?
Why not simply "precise"? I would think that would be the goal for the
perception of any grading service. We've all heard the stories of
people resubmitting an MS-nn coin several times to a given service
until it receives a grade of MS-nn+1. Is it then 'correctly' graded,
simply because it was the last assigned, and likely won't be cracked
out anymore (unless and until grading standards change)? Is that nn+1
grade then a 'conservative' grade? This principle holds for any
service.
